What do you see?
Micrographs of human body cells? Abstract paintings?
Let me bring you on a journey made of optical illusions that mislead your eyes, hearts and minds. And that misled me in the first place...
As I was exploring Western Australia, I drove down from Perth and took off my drone in several places along the coast, to get another perspective of the region's landscape. I found myself flying midway above Mars-like sceneries and surreal watercolour-like panoramas.
At first sight, I couldn’t really figure out the essence of what I was gazing at but it soon became clear that these mind-blowing views were the representation of what this part of the world was known for: open-pit mines and natural resource exploitation sites.
Thereupon, my senses were torn between wonder and desolation. Being able to discover the beauty of the Earth’s inside deeply moved me, while observing its destruction orchestrated by our human race distressed me.
These images of ‘altered landscapes’ aim to evoke a juxtaposition of conflicting emotions. While disclosing the picturesque and chromatic gems hidden in Mother nature’s bosom, this collection blows the whistle on its destruction and sheds light on the price mankind makes her pay in the name of industrial evolution.
