About

I’ve been making art for most of my life. I began formal training in 1986 and have noticed that early influences from my childhood in Queensland run deep. I lived both on the spiky edges of the desert and by the seaside, and am often led to create paintings inspired by the natural world.
I paint landscapes for their essence, rather than appearance. Mostly, I strive to create art that prompts some contemplation about the beauty of the world. My work ranges from being quite realistic to more abstract. I rarely use a brush, relying instead on rags, palette knife, sticks, cards and my hands. I’ve made a long study of composition and try to produce balanced paintings, with a skew towards the dynamic energy that asymmetry provides.
I have been told my paintings evoke a moment. I like to think that if people enjoy a moment spent with my work, then they have spent a moment with the beauty of the world.
