Artwork Description

Trajkovski was inspired to take from the old and to make it new in the composition and style of this piece. The bright colours are a link to the iconography seen in churches, in particular the Orthodox church and the composition is inspired by the c. 1620 painting “Virgin and Child with Angles”, by Bartolomeo Cavarozzi.

The artist has been heavily inspired by the new digital artworks, perhaps being the future of the art world. “Digital effects” can be seen in the work, however, Trajkovski has used the traditional medium of oils and canvas in executing the painting. Effects such as “inversion” can be seen on the figure the mother and the baby, while "pixel sorting” which is an effect that rearranges the pixels in an image, usually by sorting rows or columns of image data has inspired the background of the painting.

Artist Bio

I am a self taught artist. I have been painting since 2002 and I have always loved art from a young age. My work is inspired by my life experiences and I draw on these experience to create my work. I love the freedom painting gives me to express myself. I find it therapeutic to create and I’d be miserable without it.

My artistic process varies from painting to painting. Most of my work is not planned before I put the paint onto the canvas. I recognise that I paint the way I feel and all of my work is very personal. After I finish a painting I reflect on what was going on in my life when I produced it and it is usually then that I ascertain its meaning. At times I’ll get an urge to create something without knowing why and only come to realise what the painting meant to me once it is finished. To date I have penciled in two canvases before painting them. I don’t really like knowing where a work is going or having a set plan because I enjoy being lost in the process.
