Artwork Description

Winner of people’s choice prize at the Law Society’s Just Art Competition 2017 - “Law, Liberty and Justice”
Acrylic on canvas. July 2017.
About the work
This work was inspired by by fist trip to New York in June 2017. This painting personifies the current political environment and my experience in Manhattan. Lady Liberty is powerful bold and strong as is represented by her sharp lines and edges. However there are softer elements as she is seen weeping and holding her head.
Justice power and the law all have an effect on Liberty and she is intentionally painted in grey to symbolise that the application of the law is never simply black or white.
