“Where Lilies Dream” is an abstract homage to the timeless serenity and colour harmonies found in Monet’s gardens at Giverny. I was inspired by Claude Monet's artworks that I viewed during the French Impressionism exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. I wanted to capture the colours, essence of reflection , texture and light that were in Monet's paintings rather than a literal depiction. Layers of deep greens, violets, and blues evoke the quiet surface of water at dusk, while strokes of crimson and flashes of yellow pierce through suggesting blooms drifting in a dreamscape. Like Monet’s water lilies, the scene hovers between the real and the remembered — a vision of nature not as it appears, but as it feels. This artwork is a large statement piece for any room or environment that evokes a sense of serenity and tranquillity.
