“Actually, it’s nature itself that creates the most beautiful pictures, I’m only choosing the perspective.” ― Katja Michael
'Convection' - Limited Edition 1 of 1.
'Convection' is an abstract aerial photograph of a landscape from the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia.
The patterns seen are formed by the difference in salinity, which is high enough that the saltier water near the surface begins to sink downwards while fresher water rises from below. The salty and less salty water circulates and forms convection rolls beneath the surface. When several of these convection rolls develop next to each other in the ground, they are “squeezed” together and produce hexagonal, honeycomb-like patterns.
This location is a favourite of mine, colours changing with the seasons, but more importantly, located on the Yorke Peninsula which is full of colourful and abstract photographic opportunities. I enjoy exploring and finding these rare and unseen landscapes and turning them into artworks, and I hope you enjoy them, too.
