‘Diffuse' is an abstract aerial photograph of a Salt Lake located on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. I was drawn to three distinct colour variations between salt lakes. The first salt lake was dry, leaving behind soft pinks, which contrasted against the brighter colours from a narrow channel of water and the adjoining salt lake, which was reasonably full of water.
The colours and the composition of the photograph allowed me to be a little more artistic and creative, diffusing the natural colours of the landscape and creating a soft, calming overall feeling. Colour is an element strongly tied to our emotions. Depending on the context, it can have symbolic, associative or evocative meanings. Blue represents coolness, calmness, and wisdom, whilst pinks and reds can represent passion, purity, and innocence. The soft light is evenly spread to soften shadows and produce a more flattering image.
