Assel
Assel is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice synthesises formal architectural training with an intuitive, expressive approach to painting. Born in Kazakhstan, she began her creative development through an Arts degree, establishing a foundation in visual theory, classical techniques, and compositional balance. She later expanded her academic trajectory with a Bachelor of Architecture from Cyprus University, followed by a Master of Architecture, disciplines that continue to inform the structural clarity and spatial sensitivity present within her work.
Assel’s artistic practice has been recognised in both institutional and editorial contexts. Her early works were exhibited in a museum in Kazakhstan, reflecting her emerging voice within the region’s contemporary art landscape. She has also been published in A+B magazine, underscoring her ability to bridge artistic expression with architectural influence.
Working across a range of modes — including abstract painting, dot technique, landscape, floral studies, and architectural compositions — Assel explores the intersection of intuition and design. Her pieces are characterised by layered surfaces, rhythmic mark-making, and a considered use of form and colour. Through these elements, she investigates themes of memory, environment, and emotional resonance.
Currently based in Australia, Assel draws on the cultural and geographic shifts of her life to develop a body of work that is both personal and universal. Her paintings aim to create a contemplative experience, inviting viewers to engage with texture, movement, and the subtle tensions between structure and spontaneity.
