Artwork Description

The artwork presents a multidimensional interpretation of the Australian landscape, centering on Uluru as a powerful emblem of cultural heritage and unity. By mapping concentric connections derived from Euclidean distance, it traces ancient First Nations boundaries that honor Indigenous stewardship. The piece also underscores the critical role of water, illustrating Australia’s hydrological networks and their essential links to ecosystems and human settlements. Through varied textures, the work celebrates the geological richness of the land, while resin-encased depictions of wind capture the unseen dynamics of nature. Together, these elements reflect the interconnectedness of Australia’s natural forces and cultural narratives.

Artist Bio

Dr Ata Tara is a Brisbane-based artist, landscape architect, and academic whose practice explores the creative capacities of mapping in art. Through his distinctive GeoArt practice, he transforms geographic data, cartographic projections, and spatial patterns into visual narratives that reveal new ways of seeing the world.

Drawing on his expertise in landscape architecture, environmental planning, and spatial analysis, Ata's work investigates themes of place, identity, climate resilience, biodiversity, and the relationship between nature and culture. His artworks reinterpret maps beyond their conventional function, using them as expressive tools to communicate emotion, memory, and environmental change.

By bridging art, science, and design, Ata creates works that invite audiences to engage with landscapes from multiple perspectives and reflect on the interconnected systems that shape our environment.
