Inland Atmosphere

A naive vision of the Australian interior, this painting distils the outback into bands of pink and stone—mountain ranges settling into the distance, foliage rising like quiet punctuation in the foreground. The simplified forms and flattened perspective lean into feeling over fact, letting colour do the work of memory: heat softened into blush, space cooled into blue.

There’s a gentle tension between the playfulness of the palette and the vastness of the land it depicts. The scene becomes less a literal place and more an atmosphere—an afterglow held on the horizon—inviting the viewer to linger in that in-between moment where the landscape turns abstract, and the country reads as rhythm, contour, and light.
