Austin Flowers is the ceramic alter-ego of artist Natalie Popovski. Clay made its way into Natalie’s life when they wanted to bring elements of their still-life paintings into a new form. Slip-casting, with its unique possibilities, felt like the perfect fit. It all started with objects like the Saxa Salt container and the Hendricks Gin bottle—Natalie’s first steps into working with clay.
The act of "squishing" the clay came naturally. They were drawn to the idea of creating objects that look almost real, but not quite—warping and transforming reality in the process. Through this work, Natalie explores how the everyday, the mundane, can be reimagined and reshaped into something unexpectedly beautiful. The name "Austin Flowers" was chosen for its playful, endearing quality, capturing the lighthearted nature of the work.
