Artwork Description

The first piece of a home/interior Plein Air series I painted in 2016 for assessment during university. At the time I was living in a quaint old Queenslander in Windsor, Brisbane while apartment buildings went up around us so I was capturing the distinct character and historical features like this vibrant stained glass. It was my time using gouache on primed wood and I enjoyed the process and medium immensely.

Avena Osborn is an interdisciplinary fine artist, she has been practicing art for over twenty years honing her skills in painting, illustration, sculpture and wearable art. Shifting between mediums her work can vary in style yet she has distinctive strength in hyper-realism, love of detail and vibrant earthy colours. She draws inspiration from nature, wildlife, personal growth, dreamscapes, fantasy worlds, pop culture and book illustrations. Lighting is a key factor in her recent work, by utilising ultraviolet lights and the illuminating effects of fluorescent and glowing acrylics she creates vibrant multilayered artworks which come to life in the dark and mesmerise audiences.
