Artwork Description

Barbara has imagined a paining within a painting. Here the silk hanging takes centre stage with delicately rendered young women in beautiful clothes set amongst stylised ribbons, flowers and intricately patterned red spheres.

The small vase draws the eye away from the hanging into the foreground and is placed on a marble table which reflects the colours of the painting. The colours of the textile are bold and striking but the watercolour medium lends the painting an overall softness and light appearance.

Please see Barbara's other Japanese inspired paintings if you would like to create a series of paintings for a unique collection of original works on paper. The other artworks currently available on Bluethumb in this series are called, "White Flowers with a Japanese Wall Hanging" and "Camellias and Kimonos".

Artist Bio

Barbara Tillsley is an Australian artist. She was born in Northern NSW and moved to Sydney as a young woman. She lived in Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens for many years where the inspiration for her paintings came directly from the exposure to extensive plants and flower collections. Her still life paintings also reflect a personal interest in antique porcelain, textiles, art and design. She works in watercolours and oil paints painting fruit and flowers in compositions with a unique but traditionally based style. The settings for the fruit and flowers are inspired from personal memories of travel, traditional textile designs, imagined landscapes and favourite collections from her home. Barbara now lives in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and continues to draw her creativity from nature.
