Born in Iran and migrated to Australia 30 years ago as a political refugee. I get my inspiration from Persian carpets, but use bold colors and abstract notions to display Australian flowers. Very much trying to immesh the two cultures. Ancient Persians believed that heaven was a garden. They called heaven paradeeza, this is where the English word for paradise comes from. If you have ever seen a Persian carpet you will notice that they are floral, because sitting on them in the middle of the desert was supposed to transport you to a heavenly space.
I have largely drawn inspiration from this in portraying flowers in very bright colors in the hope that they will sit in your house and transport the space into your piece of paradise. The bright colors take you to a happier place.
I have further drawn inspiration from Persian miniature art to draw the viewer's eye to different areas within the painting by portraying the flowers in a non realistic format.
You will notice plenty of Australian native plants, this is the representation of the duality of my identity as an Australian that has brought influences from another country.
I hope you enjoy my work
