My late grandparents, who were married for
almost 60 years, were physically separated by
Pop’s move to a nursing home well before my
grandmother also moved. This a representation
of one of the few hours together they had per
week during that period of transition- a short
meal at their bowling club before being
separated again. Their longing for connection
with each other was achingly clear. They
relished the physicality of their connection in
that small moment- their fingers in a tangle of
longing to remain unseparated. It is both a
time-frozen image of the type of connection we
ache for, and a story of the anguish we dread.

missed, regretted."
