Penguin books released a series of folding maps of the UK in the late 30s, and this painting is based on the cover, given my usual painterly treatment of drips, layers and swirls. The title is from the very English book by Lord Dunsany, wherein it is possible to leave 'the fields we know' and walk into Elfland. I chose the title to add a touch of the surreal.
The painting has painted sides and is ready to hang without needing to be framed, and it has a gloss varnish over the textured surface.
A pop artwork for lovers of design, books, maps, fantasy and the British Isles.
