Surrealist landscape. This was the style of art I painted before I started on the Penguin books and Monopolies. Some of my earlier paintings in this series have been finalists in major art prizes such as the Sulman (2012), Mosman (2012), Calleen (2013) and Gallipoli (2014), and were included in a show with works from the Australian War Memorial for the show โGuarding the Home Frontโ in 2016.
These paintings have elements of fantasy, while also being grounded with the verisimilitude of the figures and details. I want to evoke an air of mystery, and melancholy mixed with wonder.
The painting is monochrome - the shadows are very dark brown, the highlights are white, everything else is a blend.
Please note that the canvas has painted sides, and is ready to hang without needing to be framed.
