Artwork Description

Acrylic Paint on canvas, stretched and ready to hang

Signed on the back

Large pop art painting of a classic 'Monopoly' board. The surface is thick and textured, built up of many layers of paint, with a gloss varnish. Paint is spattered and dripped across the board, and the central text is distorted - this is a contest of clean design and painterly chaos, an approach I've been using in many of my paintings for the past few years.

Some of the conventional imagery around the board has been replaced with surrealistic or unexpected pictures, giving the painting a sense of humour and also representing the strange events that sometimes come up in life. The bigger theme of these Monopoly paintings is the humorous and strange things that can enter our lives without warning, at the roll of a dice.

These paintings have been included in several solo and group shows at respected galleries (such as Michael Reid at Murrurundi, KAB Gallery Terrigal and the Bluethumb Sydney pop up show at M2 Gallery) and have been very successful.

Please note that the canvas has painted edges, and is ready to be hung without framing.
A striking feature painting, sure to make a big impression!

Artist Bio

Painter from the Blue Mountains. I've had paintings in the Sulman Prize 2012‚ Mosman Prize 2012‚ Calleen Art Prize 2013‚ Gallipoli Art Prize 2014 & 2016, Gosford Art Prize 2018 & 2018, the ANL Maritime Art Prize 2018 and the 2019 Hawkesbury Art Prize (winner). In the last nine years I've had a lot of success with abstract paintings, drawing inspiration from the covers of 'Popular Penguin' paperback books, from the classic Monopoly board, Uno cards, and other pop culture icons. The paintings are distorted representations of the subject matter, transformed with thick brushstrokes and often random lettering, retaining the essence of the original but also becoming something new. I have had sell out shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore. My art has been featured in Art Edit magazine, The Grand Designs Australia Sourcebook and the Financial Review. PLEASE NOTE - commissions now closed for 2024. Thank you!
