Artwork Description

As an artist, I am captivated by moments that embody the rich tapestry of history and culture. The Victor Harbour horse-drawn tram, a rare gem in today's modern transit landscape, holds a special place in my heart. Serving as a vital link between the mainland and Granite Island in South Australia, it stands as a testament to a bygone era.

In this image, I aim to freeze-frame a piece of Australian history—a glimpse into a time when such trams were commonplace, carrying passengers with a graceful rhythm powered by noble horses. The tram's enduring presence in a world dominated by technology speaks volumes about our collective heritage and the resilience of traditions that bind us to our past.

Through this artwork, I invite viewers to contemplate the beauty of continuity and the significance of preserving our cultural heritage. It serves not only as a visual homage to an iconic mode of transport but also as a reminder of the stories and journeys woven into the fabric of our nation's narrative.

Artist Bio

I started out with a pencil in hand, drawing portraits and learning to capture emotion through subtle lines and shadows. Over time, I found myself wanting more depth, colour, and freedom and that led me to oil painting.

These days, I love working with oil because of how it lets me explore contrast, light, and mood in a way pencil never could. My subjects are always changing. I’m drawn to anything with character, whether it’s a person, an old car, an animal, or even a building.

For me, painting is about looking more closely and finding something interesting in the everyday and bringing it to life with colour and light.
