Artwork Description

This painting is inspired by Darook Park, a local seaside gem in the Sutherland Shire. My goal was to capture the striking contrast between the sunlit areas and the deep, cool shadows cast by the park's beautiful trees. The interplay of light and shadow creates a dynamic scene, highlighting the natural beauty of this tranquil spot.

I wanted the greens to dominate the piece, showcasing the variety of hues in the park’s lush vegetation. The greens are balanced by a very light blue sky, which adds a sense of openness and calm to the composition. This work is a celebration of the park’s serene atmosphere and the vibrant life that fills it.

Artist Bio

I started out with a pencil in hand, drawing portraits and learning to capture emotion through subtle lines and shadows. Over time, I found myself wanting more depth, colour, and freedom and that led me to oil painting.

These days, I love working with oil because of how it lets me explore contrast, light, and mood in a way pencil never could. My subjects are always changing. I’m drawn to anything with character, whether it’s a person, an old car, an animal, or even a building.

For me, painting is about looking more closely and finding something interesting in the everyday and bringing it to life with colour and light.
