Soaring

Whenever I get down to the water, I try to capture some photos of the local Pelicans. I am always trying to capture them as they come into land on the water as they look amazing with how they extend their feet like landing gear on an aircraft. Haven't managed to capture the right image yet. However, I did manage to capture this amazing image of a Pelican soaring through the sky.

Rather than painting a blue-sky background, I have opted for something different that creates more interest. The blue and pink vertical lines create a feeling of movement and aligns nicely with the vertical aspects of the birds wingspan.

This piece of art will create a point of interest in any room.

I started out with a pencil in hand, drawing portraits and learning to capture emotion through subtle lines and shadows. Over time, I found myself wanting more depth, colour, and freedom and that led me to oil painting.

These days, I love working with oil because of how it lets me explore contrast, light, and mood in a way pencil never could. My subjects are always changing. I’m drawn to anything with character, whether it’s a person, an old car, an animal, or even a building.

For me, painting is about looking more closely and finding something interesting in the everyday and bringing it to life with colour and light.
