Artwork Description

During a short visit to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, I spent a magical day exploring the markets, painting outdoors and sipping warm drinks to keep the chill at bay. While my son and husband were skiing up in the mountains. One especially memorable moment was meeting a kind café owner who invited me in before opening hours. Despite the freezing temperatures, they welcomed me with a warm smile as I carried all my painting supplies, preparing to start around midday to create this artwork. I ordered a coffee and a slice of cake — a simple gesture of hospitality that made a big impact.

Though the café’s real name remains private out of respect, The Green House Café represents my version of that warm experience — a tribute to the kindness I experienced. It was a beautiful beginning to a memorable day at the markets.

Artist Bio

I am an Australian Sydney-based emerging artist specialising in contemporary seascapes, expressive roses and figurative coastal scenes. Over the past six years, my dedicated practice has focused on capturing the unique light and rhythmic energy of the Australian coastline as well as still-life and portraiture painting. I am honoured to be recipient of the prestigious Lloyd Rees Award, a recognition that continues to drive my exploration of the maritime landscape.

My primary medium is watercolours, chosen for its fluid, translucent qualities that mirror the unpredictable nature of the sea. I also work with water-mixable oils to build richer textures and depth on panels or canvases and acrylics. My portfolio ranges from vast, atmospheric horizons to intimate scenes of couples on the shore, blending traditional landscape techniques with a contemporary figurative approach and still-life botanical rose paintings.

My work is a study of the emotional connection we share with the ocean. Whether painting a solitary tide or a shared moment on the sand, my goal is to translate the movement and atmosphere of Australian beaches and coastline into a visual experience. I am inspired by the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, particularly his masterpiece, The Kiss it is so beautiful. When travelling overseas I grab the opportunity to plein air paint and created artworks of street scenes in watercolours and some of these paintings are available on Bluethumb to buy.
