Artwork Description

This artwork was inspired by the fact pigeons are notoriously terrible at making nests, which I found absolutely endearing. I've always had a soft spot for these birds despite their common nickname; 'Rats with wings'. I wanted to create an amusing scene showing the quaint and wholesome side of pigeons in a colourful and sightly surreal background - Titling it, 'A Fowl Homemaker'.

Artist Bio

My name is Bianca Pole and I am a young artist residing in Sydney, Australia. I balance my love of art whilst studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree at the Australian Catholic University. My artistic style is somewhat 'out of the box'. I'm of the firm belief that you should always challenge yourself with new mediums and continue to explore outside your comfort zone. Ever since I was a little girl I have loved all things creative. As a child I permanently had a paintbrush in my hand, and as I've grown I maintained passions in diverse areas of the creative world. I'm an avid painter, drawer and am particularly fond of vintage toy making! I also have dabbled in wood working and sculpture as well as releasing my inner granny in various knitting projects.

My soft toy work has been exhibited at the iconic Sydney Royal Easter Show and has won multiple awards. All of my bears follow a traditional vintage style. They are made from Amsterdam mohair and are fully jointed ... each with their own unique personality!

I did a year of visual arts and comparative literature study at Sydney University, was invited to complete an intensive life drawing course at the National Arts School. In my experience doing life drawing I developed a love for the human form and for traditional figurative drawing and painting. Through my Occupational Therapy course, I have enhanced my knowledge of anatomy which has further fuelled my passion for figurative art.
