Bianca Slatter is an Australian emerging contemporary painter. Previously, she studied at the National Art School (NAS) in Sydney before pursuing a career as a marketing professional working in the financial services and technology sectors in Australia and the UK. Upon her return home to Sydney, she attended mixed media painting classes in 2020 and began her career as an artist. Her art practice is inspired by Sydney’s coastline, using texture, colour and shapes to create abstract landscapes.
Bianca draws on her experience of returning home to Sydney after living in London for 14 years. She explores memories and emotional connections to a place that is familiar, yet different. What was a longing for home has been replaced with a sense of rediscovery and reconnecting to her country of birth, while embracing influences from a life abroad. The underlying theme of Slatter’s work is the landscape, as a metaphor of where she’s from, where she’s been and where she is today. Her work is inspired by JMW Turner landscapes and Sydney’s coastal landscape painted in a style influenced by abstract landscape artists of the St Ives School, in Cornwall, UK. Collage is an integral part of her art practice which began while attending mixed media painting classes. She uses collage and acrylic washes to create surface texture and patterns before using a mix of mediums and a limited palette to create abstracts of Sydney’s rock, sand and sea landscapes.
