This painting is from a series of work I exhibited in Adelaide, in 2025. The series was exhibited under the name “Clang”
The works in this series were tongue in cheek reflections of the artist. They show light hearted humour and staring at the sun sincerity. This body of work reflected on a recent car accident I had, putting me in hospital for six days and leaving with a bad heart, and my experience as an artist practicing for over a decade. Resulting with work on themes of anxiety surrounding issues of the self, the body, urbanisation, climate, and artistry.
This work is named after a poem it reads:
“I look down at my feet and they’re covered in seaweed. I’m holding in a really big wee and i’m holding my willy like a naked baby running in front of the telly.
I reach beside me for some bad pre-mix whiskey my friend left in the fridge last week. Watching the channel two news I look at the message I got from you.
Sorry I missed your message, I’ve been at work, does Tuesday at noon work for you ?
Of course dude.
I put my phone down beside me. Successfully organised with a mate, a play date, and I feel great. In the kitchen I sweep up the dried seaweed and empty the dust pan in the bin.
As I stand the sun’s eyes meet mine and he grins. The sea creeps halfway up the doors glass screen and water starts seeping in, and he’s still there smiling.
Seaweed, crabs, sand and other sea things wrap around my feet as the water pours in. Maybe, when my waist it reach, I’ll be able to pee.“
