I’ve walked across the Story Bridge in Brisbane many times. When I was a postal worker, I’d walk from my home in New Farm to Coorparoo almost daily. It was always my habit to check the time on the City Hall clock as I passed the single point where it is still visible on the bridge. Once the tallest building in Brisbane, now it seems to be drowning in its tall, modern neighbours.
Recently I have been exploring the ‘tondo’ format. I started doing this because I had some MDF board remaining from a project, so I bought a router and started making circles. They have an intrinsic compositional beauty which I am loving at present. Tondi are almost pregnant with symbology as well, ouroboros, cycle of life, the world et al. I’ll be working with them for quite a while, I think..
