Artwork Description

One of my favourite pastimes is watching the storms roll through at our home in country Victoria. Perched on the hilltop, the storms feel closer, more urgent, and the sunshine afterwards seems brighter. The colour contrast of the deep blue storm clouds, misty grey fog and the sun’s bright rays push against the different textures made using palette knife, plasterers tape and geometric pattern from plastic packaging. This is a small but powerful piece that catches the eye and asks the viewer to take a closer look.

Artist Bio

Blythe Kimber is an Australian artist based in Melbourne. Her current practice focuses on contemporary abstract painting in acrylic and mixed media. Working primarily on an intimate scale across canvas, paper and wood panel, Blythe’s paintings are shaped by curiosity, discovery, and a deep response to the Australian landscape. Through intuitive abstraction, she explores colour, texture and movement, creating layered works that invite viewers to pause, look closely and discover their own meaning. Blythe has exhibited in group exhibitions in Melbourne, and currently has work being exhibited at the Fitzroy Public Gallery in Melbourne. Her work is also held in private collections.
