Artwork Description

Float No. 2 is the second in a series of paintings that expresses the deep emotional pull Australia has for me. After spending time overseas, coming home evokes something almost primal - a profound sense of relief and joy. The painting draws on the colours and rhythms of the Australian landscape: the blues of ocean, rivers and sky, sandy beaches, eucalyptus, bottlebrush and coral reefs. For me, the Float series captures the moment of returning home, when the familiar embraces you and you can finally let go and simply be.

Artist Bio

Blythe Kimber is an Australian artist based in Melbourne. Her current practice focuses on contemporary abstract painting in acrylic and mixed media. Working primarily on a small scale across canvas, paper and wood panel, Blythe’s paintings are shaped by curiosity, discovery, and a deep response to the Australian landscape. Through intuitive abstraction, she explores colour, texture and movement, creating layered works that invite viewers to pause, look closely and discover their own meaning. Blythe has exhibited in group exhibitions in Melbourne, and currently has work being exhibited at the Fitzroy Public Gallery in Melbourne. Her work is also held in private collections. Blythe is currently a finalist in the Biennale of Colour and Light at the Westend Art Space exhibiting in October-November 2026.
