20 is a collaboration between my son Jai and I. Sometimes I find staring at a blank canvas too confronting. If something is already on it, I feel I can add to or improve upon it. It's a mental thing...
20 started with Jai's collection of dark figures. Then i (being an idealist) added as much colour and vibrancy as humanly possible to try to balance it out again to possess a feeling of positivity.
20 pertains to number of sticks scratched in orange. Upon completing this painting, I could then view the mindset I had been in retrospectively. It was only then that I realized that I have outgrown 20 versions of myself. I am not the same person I once was. Yes I am older and wiser-but I needed to be all of those previous versions of myself to become who I am.
