Dr Kathryn Pentecost is a visual artist, filmmaker, and writer. Trained originally as a graphic artist & designer, she has also been a stage designer and scenic artist in Sydney, The Blue Mountains, and South Australia. She has participated and organised numerous exhibitions of painting and sculpture in NSW and SA. She has also worked as a life drawing model for artists such as Adam Cullen. Her interest in drawing and painting is (mostly) inspired by the works of figurative artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. She is a lover of artists Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, William Morris, Amedeo Modigliani, Georgia O'Keeffe, Margaret Preston, Dorrit Black, Grace Cossington Smith, etc. She is also fond of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai and Chinese calligraphy. Her visual roots are perhaps most strongly connected to the island of Java in Indonesia from whence her maternal ancestors lived.
