My name is Brett Hayes. I am an Oil Painter, based in Sydney, Australia.
I have been painting professionally since. 2006 and have been focused primarily on landscapes (with a strong emphasis on the sea and sky). The images I paint are from trips that I have taken throughout Australia and the world. Recently, I have been going Plain-Air painting (painting outside in nature). I really enjoy it and would like to pursue it more in the future.
I work in a direct/Alla-Prima approach. I like my work to look representational with some interesting surface qualities. I mainly paint on canvas or linen. My works range in sizes. Mostly small Plain-Air studies to larger studio paintings.
My work is about trying to convey the light and beauty of a particular landscape which I've been fortunate enough to experience. I want to share some of the joy I get when viewing these vistas, to the viewer. Many of the artworks contain a sense of drama whilst others are more contemplative. I am particularly drawn to the soft evening light before sunset otherwise known as 'the golden hour'.
I have had 4 solo shows and been in numerous group shows. I have been a finalist in and one several art prizes. My work is in public and private collections around the world.
I would like to continue exploring landscapes and the natural world in my artwork. I appreciate all the support from my collectors, family and friends.
