From an early age I loved to draw and paint. My earliest drawings were of birds copied form books, as well as drawing famous faces for school projects. However the most significant development for me with regards to my art, was in my final 2 years of high school. Our art teacher was an inspirational figure who could identify and harnessed individual skills helping us uncover what we were trying to evoke on our art. It was then that depicting objects and the use of colour became important aspects in my art, which continue today.
While growing up I also had a keen interest in buildings, which is unsurprising given the correlation between art and Architecture, and following school I became an architect.
Having developed my professional career as an Architect, I have renewed my art practice in the last few years. My Architectural background has also helped shape my current artworks, allowing a greater understanding how to refine and be more lucid with ideas and styles.
Notwithstanding, still life and objects continue to be the main source of my artwork. More often than not, I will wait for objects and various still life settings to find me, rather than seeking them out and arranging them. I am especially drawn towards objects that convey a personal sense of memory or even imagined memories from foreign settings and eras. These include objects such as old match booklets collected over the years, various chopsticks amassed from takeaway dinners, to even seemingly mundane utilitarian items such as zippers.
I tend to explore each subject in multiple ways starting with an initial sketch, developing it through to a more developed painting it, ore even abstracting it as a collage and sometimes small dioramas. My artworks on line are paintings. My use of colour is more varied these days, depending on how the object affects me and the type of memory it conveys.
