Artist Bio

My artistic journey began over 50 years ago when I visited the many art galleries in London while working there as a graphic artist. Travelling to the Venice Biennale in 1958 I was intrigued by the profusion of abstract art from Europe and U.S.A. This inspired me to investigate this art form on my return to Australia.

My studies began in Brisbane with tutor Roy Churcher and later with Bronwyn Yeates who suggested I continue my studies at the Art Students League in N.Y. with tutor Theodore Stamos who showed me a scumblimg technique which enhanced my work. Being interested in printmaking I studied etching, woodcuts and collagraphs at the Pratt Graphics Centre while I was in New York. In 1983 I produced a membership print for the Print Council of Australia.

I have had many one man exhibitions in Brisbane that include the Design Art Centre, the Reid Gallery and the Town Gallery along with galleries in regional centres such as the Tia Gallery in Toowoomba, the Martin Gallery in Townsville and three exhibitions in the Redland Regional Art Gallery in Cleveland, where I now live. In 1989 I exhibited at the Bridge Street Gallery in Sydney. My prints have been shown in the Bonython Gallery in Sydney.

I have won a number of art competitions in Queensland and my work is represented in the Queensland Art Gallery, and regional galleries in Dalby, Toowoomba and the Redlands. In 2008 the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra purchase 12 of my limited edition prints.

Being interested in environmental landscapes I concentrate on a contemporary approach to the uniqueness of any subject in painting or printmaking.
