Artwork Description

Paperbark trees that fringe the wetlands and coastal areas have a special appeal to me, full of character, they are essential regulators of underground water and stabilisers of soil.
The ones in this print are ancient, possibly a hundred years old and characters that I see each time I spend summer in coastal locations near water.

A collagraph print is a print that is taken from a printing plate that has been made by hand by adhering different textures and mediums to a cardboard print plate. The textured plate is inked up by pushing different coloured inks into the textures with a rag and then burnishing the surface, it can often take over an hour to ink up a plate before running it through a printing press. Although a small number of prints are taken from the plate each print is unique due to the inking up process which changes every time. Only 4 prints have been taken from this plate and all are quite different resulting in a varied edition (E/V). The measurement refers to the print size not the paper size. There is ample paper space around the print to allow for framing.
