Bridie Amelia Schmidt is an emerging artist who lives in the Northern Rivers of NSW, where her largely self-taught artistic practice is inspired by the landscapes and coastal seascapes around her. She is also an electric vehicle journalist and web designer.
Early experiences viewing works by masters such as JW Turner and the study of impressionism and subsequent art movements at high school, where she excelled in her class, formed a love for the visual arts at a young age.
Bridie started rediscovering the making of art during the 2020 lockdown due to the global pandemic, looking to the world to reaffirm her love of nature after a summer of bushfires, and increasing effects of climate change.
Bridie explores landscape with sketches using gouache, charcoal and pen. She uses these to develop works using acrylic and sometimes collage, expressing colour, movement and the emotions that connect her to the environment.
