When painting animals, it's difficult not to form a connection with the piece. That's something I love about painting portraits; getting to step back from the easel and see the accumulation of dozens of hours, thousands of brushstrokes and many tubes of paint embodied; a real creature, a soul on the canvas.
I created with artwork with oil paint on a quality stretched canvas measuring 76.2cmH x 122cmW x 3.5cmD (30"x48"x1.5"). I referenced an amazing photograph taken by my friend Matt Holland on a farm in New Zealand.
