Artwork Description

This artwork is all about lights, reflections and fun in the pool at night. It triggers memories of a pool party where the grandchildren were full of excitement at being able to swim at night. We had adults on guard in the pool, adults on guard at the side of the pool and all was a blur of splashes, pool noodles, kids squealing, arms flailing.

Looking back at the photos it was difficult to discern anything in particular but it was easy to see that everyone was having fun.

My paintings are started with an energetic layering of colour with the focus on mark making and brushstrokes that depict movement. The constant layering and varying of shapes creates complex colour mixes and depth within the piece. This piece in particular has some geometric qualities.

The colour palette is striking and the design draws you in to investigate further where you will find complexities of colour and mark making.
Framed in a black wooden float frame, this piece would look fabulous in any living room in your home or apartment.

Artist Bio

Since beginning my artistic path in 2008 I have been on an ever evolving love affair, learning and experimenting every step of the way. I have no formal art background although have attended a number of workshops with Australian artists.

I have exhibited in Group Exhibitions in Sydney and on the Sunshine Coast where I now reside.

I teach mixed media painting at my home studio and participate in the annual Noosa Open Studio artist trail.

I am inspired by the natural sub tropical bush setting I call home, the colours, the shapes, textures, lines, shadows and reflections. I love to look through, between and into the landscape searching out pockets of interesting shapes and textures. I try to convey a feeling of depth and movement and a feeling that you can immerse yourself into the artwork. I hope you will see some or all of these ideas in my work regardless of whether the piece is abstract or more representational.

My Art practice is evolving as I find ways of working that feel right for me.
I paint using artist quality acrylic paints. I'm not afraid to experiment or break the rules as I've learned that this can lead to amazing moments of surprise and joy.
My process involves an initial period of discovery where I work quite quickly and intuitively layering paint with no particular end result in mind. I am open to all possibilites. I scrape, sand or scratch back into both wet and dry paint revealing the history of underneath layers. I might draw, add collage, create texture.
As my composition starts to emerge my actions become more deliberate and considered. This is a period of questioning.
I want my paintings to retain a sense of spontaneity. There is always a danger to explain too much, to tighten up, to go too far. I am conscious that at any time a painting may be calling out for me to take a risk, be bold and to reenergise the canvas.
Slowly the end phase arrives. Changes are minor and I reach the point where I can sit back and be satisfied that I have conveyed a part of me!
