Artwork Description

This work was influenced by my childhood.
As a child I grew up knowing the mythical, Dreamtime stories of my people from my Grandmother’s sister.
The Owl “Mugi” is one of these. Mugi is a messenger that takes the form of an Owl. Mugi’s principle role is to warn children that there are Spirits around, and to be aware. Mugi is neither benevolent nor malevolent. Mugi may appear at night on your path. It commands great respect for the Owl is just there to warn the child. Mugi has no a gender; there is no doing good or evil, Mugi is just the messenger fulfilling that role. As children, we were warned not to touch the physical remains of the Owl. If you touch its feathers or any part of Mugi, you will immediately be tainted in the same way that a slow poison gradually contaminates a body. As a child we were told never to harm the messengers.
