Artwork Description

This striking original painting depicts a lion’s head emerging from a turbulent sea of colour. The lion is rendered with broad, textured brushstrokes, its vivid, almost ghostly face standing out sharply against the surrounding. Its features are not hyper-realistic but suggested with sufficient clarity to convey a quiet, powerful presence.

The mane appears to dissolve into the background, blending with the chaotic field below and around it, as if the lion is rising from fire, blood or a storm of emotion. The dark, focused eye gives the face a calm, watchful intensity. The softly defined muzzle, with a nose and subtle markings, anchors the composition. There is a sense of majesty and mystery in the way the lion appears partially formed, partially hidden.

This Acrylic paint on high-quality double thick stretched canvas board, using brush and palette knife.

Artist Bio

I was born in Sri Lanka and migrated to Australia many years ago, with a passion for painting from a very tender age. Always backed up by my mother, since my first art on a sheet of Asbestos, growing up among coconut trees and beaches added to my imagination.
My art is inspired by the vibrant colours of tropical flora and fauna, Australian Autumn, cultural traditions and Buddhist philosophy.
