This painting is painted from a film photo my husband took when we were in New York a few years ago. I love painting cities at night or dusk, the way light hits buildings & the glow of street lights is so, itβs all so beautiful. The light creates so many interesting shapes & shadows. I fiddled with the colours in this one to make it feel extra dusky & romantic.
I painted it in gouache as I have a bit of a thing for painting building in gouache. The paint creates a beautiful textured matte finish when it dries, that I think lends itself to grungy city scapes. I mostly love to paint these scenes to reminisce memories for myself, but have found their scenes many people feel the same homey nostalgia for.
