NY, i luv u

This painting is painted from a film photo my husband took when we were in New York a few years ago. I love painting cities at night or dusk, the way light hits buildings & the glow of street lights is so, it’s all so beautiful. The light creates so many interesting shapes & shadows. I fiddled with the colours in this one to make it feel extra dusky & romantic.

I painted it in gouache as I have a bit of a thing for painting building in gouache. The paint creates a beautiful textured matte finish when it dries, that I think lends itself to grungy city scapes. I mostly love to paint these scenes to reminisce memories for myself, but have found their scenes many people feel the same homey nostalgia for.

Her work is mainly featured around moments of everyday life or photos from travels, often just from simple iPhone photos. She loves taking an ordinary moment & cementing it in time. Making the viewer look a little longer at a moment you would normally pass by.

Caitlin is passionate about having art as a mental health practice as well as for the fun of it. She loves the way art makes you slow down & just notice & hopes her work is reflective of this to others.
