EL GRANDE by Carita Farrer Spencer
original artwork on stretched canvas 150 x 120cm (unframed)
Carita's work celebrates beauty and quirkiness in equal measure. Simultaneously refined and rebellious.
"One of my favourite places on earth is Museo Frida Kahlo "Casa Azul" in Coyoacán, Mexico City. I travelled there with my husband and our kids when they were little, when my husband was touring with Cirque Du Soleil. We lived in Mexico City for a couple of months and I visited Frida & Diego's magnificent oasis garden in the middle of the old city multiple times. I am always drawn to botanicals of all types and find succulents and Cacti really fascinating. They are tough and resilient, they symbolise strength and protection and they are funny and weird but also strangely attractive with their odd shapes and textures and balance of feminine and masculine energy.
I close my eyes and remember the warmth of the sun, the relaxed Mexican vibes, the waves of love and good times I feel when thinking of my travels with my young family and the inspiration that flows from having been immersed in Frieda Kahlo’s beautiful artistic paradise.”
Carita's highly original artwork is now attracting many collectors who are drawn to her unique use of edible colour palettes, intuitive mark making and signature illustrative twist. This artwork is part of the 'Spring Siesta Collection' and embodies the colour, vibrancy, relaxation and earthiness of a lush, lazy, Mexican inspired landscape.
