Gladstone Green Tranquility, is an oil painting on clear primed linen of model Kayla. It was painted from sketches and photographs from a Life Drawing Class. The figure shows a certain strength and confidence in her pose whilst maintaining her vulnerability. I wanted to make the figure the main focus of the work and the textured matt surface of the linen gave me the opportunity to create a contrast between the figure and the background. The glazing technique on the figure and other painted areas created this distinction and vibrancy in stark contrast to the flat linen texture. The colours in the work are inspired by the surrounds of the gallery space in which the life drawing class took place. The mood the gallery space creates is a vital ingredient to the tranquillity of this artwork.
