Impelled by the impactful mechanics of colour, Carmel Reilly's abstracts assimilate evocative and enthralling tones that converge on the canvas in a unique embrace. Fusing into formations that balance between organised and organic, these constituents of colour chronicle sensory recollection and experience. Frequently incorporating drip line work in a conscientious and methodical manner, typically in hues that harmonise with those already in existence, these integrations counteract sparks of vigour and zeal, with thoughtful and measured introspection. While the compositional structure feels fluid and free-flowing, it retains the ability to arrive at conclusions that appear definite and discerning.
Remaining unbound to a fixed or singular creative process, the development of Carmel's works are not determined by a designated formula, but through evolving experimentation. Preliminary concepts are extracted out of the sights and sounds of her subconscious, her emotional recall and the multitude of components that comprise her external periphery. As her physical practice ensues, and foundational colours and configurations emerge, more tangible ideas begin to shape, At other junctions, some preparatory sketching or detailed delineating over the paint work determines its congruence and the direction it ultimately pursues. Routinely, she finds her work alternating and adapting to her variations in mood and what she conclusively deems crucial to communicate at that moment in time.
Carmel sells her works directly out of her home studio, situated in Subiaco, Western Australia. Viewings are available and can be made via appointment. She is currently accepting commissions, having completed several for a number of clients, based both within Australia as well as overseas.
