I have tried to capture the amazing colours of our Western Australian outback in this painting of the epic Gibb River Road crossing the Pentecost River in the Kimberley region. The crossing becomes very fast and furious in the wet season and can only be navigated by 4x4 during the dry season. My inspiration was my granddaughter & her partner, who circumnavigated Australia in this truck camper that they built themselves.
I am a self-taught artist and I feel as though I have come full circle from being a child who spent most of her spare time with a pencil in her hand to now having the time to create small paintings using pen, ink & watercolour wash. The climate in Western Australia allows me to have my easel set up on the patio and to therefore listen to the many wild birds who visit our garden as I am painting. This has been the inspiration for several paintings of various visitors to our garden amongst the eucalypt trees. Over the years I have experimented using many different mediums, enjoying each one but still finding myself returning to my old favourite. I have been mainly exhibiting and selling paintings in local exhibitions.
