Artwork Description

I made this oil painting out of the many things that I have in my house. The main thing I wanted to paint was the beautiful 70’s jug that was one of the items I “inherited” after my Mum died. My family basicly just divvied up all her knick knacks between those of us who were interested and I got this bottle, a couple of 80’s jugs (which also may feature in a still life at some point as they are so beautiful), a golf umbrella, and some photo albums (which of course are the most precious of all).
I bought the basket in the Sudan, and the blue coffee pot and sugar bowl were part of a set given to us for a wedding present (another 80’s throwback). The orange bottle was originally full of liqueur, which I had (obviously) drunk!
And the nuts and fruit were, well , nuts and fruit. No story except they came from my garden. I chucked a couple of shells in, because, as you know, I like shells and Bob’s your uncle – “Still Life with Nuts and Fruit”. I love this painting because of the bright colours and the reminder I get of being in my Mum’s house.

Artist Bio

I am an Australian artist who lives in the Northern Rivers area of northern New South Wales

I am an artist who uses elements of etching, aquatint, drawing, painting, relief printing, sewing, found objects , screen printing and much more to create unique collages and editioned artworks that celebrate the small things that make up life and make life more enjoyable, in particular seasonal shifts and the special value of everyday experience.

On Blue Thumb I only sell paintings in oil, as framed works on paper don't transport well. Etchings also do not reproduce well for the internet. If you are interested in my print work you can find it on my website http://www.carolinemckayart.yolasite.com
