Artwork Description

While travelling in Zanzibar, I was struck by the harsh shadows that fall on the run down buildings that line the streets. I tried to capture the light but also the texture of the paintwork on these buildings. I was also struck by the beauty and quiet modesty of the few women that I saw on the street and wanted to convey this.

Artist Bio

I am an Australian artist who lives in the Northern Rivers area of northern New South Wales

I am an artist who uses elements of etching, aquatint, drawing, painting, relief printing, sewing, found objects , screen printing and much more to create unique collages and editioned artworks that celebrate the small things that make up life and make life more enjoyable, in particular seasonal shifts and the special value of everyday experience.

On Blue Thumb I only sell paintings in oil, as framed works on paper don't transport well. Etchings also do not reproduce well for the internet. If you are interested in my print work you can find it on my website http://www.carolinemckayart.yolasite.com
