I painted this work Wild Blue as a response to the raw beauty of the Australian coastline, where rugged cliffs meet the endless movement of the sea. Rather than focusing on fine detail, I wanted to capture the essence of the landscape with the sweeping curve of the shoreline, the energy of the waves, and the way the land seems to stretch effortlessly towards the horizon. Through expressive brushwork and layered textures, I allowed the scene to emerge intuitively, guided by memory, emotion and my connection to the natural world.
What draws me most to places like this is the contrast between the untamed power of the ocean and the resilience of the land. The dark headlands stand firm against the shifting tides, while the soft sands and rolling surf create a sense of rhythm and movement throughout the composition. The loose marks and gestural strokes reflect the changing elements of the coast, creating a landscape that feels both familiar and fleeting like a moment suspended between earth, sea and sky.
