‘Outback Deep’ grew from my love of the Australian outback and the incredible way it seems to glow under the endless sky. I wasn’t trying to capture a particular location, but rather those memories and impressions that stay with you long after you’ve left—the rich red earth, scattered scrub, distant trees and the feeling of space stretching in every direction. Through layers of warm ochres, rusts and earthy browns, I wanted to convey the energy, colour and character that make these landscapes so uniquely Australian.
What I enjoy most about the outback is that it reveals itself slowly. At first glance it can seem harsh and rugged, but the longer you look, the more beauty you discover in its colours, textures and quiet details. The loose marks and intuitive brushwork in this piece reflect that sense of discovery, allowing the landscape to emerge naturally across the canvas. For me, this work is a celebration of the resilience, warmth and timeless spirit of the Australian interior.
