In Outback Dry, I wanted to capture the vast, sunburnt beauty of the Australian interior, the places where the land stretches endlessly towards the horizon and every colour tells a story of resilience. Rich reds, ochres and golden earth tones sweep across the canvas, reflecting the harsh yet captivating landscape shaped by heat, wind and time. The scattered marks and hints of vegetation suggest life persisting against the odds, bringing a quiet rhythm and energy to this expansive scene.
As I painted, I was drawn to the contrasts that make the outback so compelling: the softness of distant skies against rugged terrain, and the sense of isolation balanced by an overwhelming feeling of freedom. Rather than depicting a specific location, Outback Dry is an emotional response to the Australian landscape and a celebration of its raw beauty, enduring spirit and timeless connection to the land. It is a place I return to often in my imagination, where simplicity and vastness create a powerful sense of belonging.
