I love the raw, earthy energy of the Australian Outback and the way the landscape can shift so dramatically in colour and mood. In this work, I’ve brought together those rich burnt terracotta orange, ochres and deep earthy browns with softer greens and a wide expanse of blue sky. The sweeping marks and layered textures are my way of capturing the ruggedness of the land, where dry earth, grasses and distant scrub come together beneath that endless Australian sky.
I wanted this piece to feel both expansive and grounded to draw you into the landscape and let your eye wander through the winding forms and layers of colour. There’s something incredibly special about the Outback: it can feel harsh and powerful, yet at the same time incredibly beautiful and peaceful. I’ve tried to capture that contrast here, allowing the paint and my intuitive mark-making to tell the story of this remarkable landscape.
